Dubbo Western Plains Zoo
Cheetah
Acinonyx jubatus
Dubbo Zoo has successfully bred cheetahs in captivity and some of the cubs can be seen here resting (but still alert) under a tree.
Male Cheetahs live in groups of two or three called "coalitions" and together they defend territory. Female Cheetahs live alone except during mating or when they have cubs.
Cheetahs purr to each other in greeting but also communicate by chirps and yelps. Some yelps can be heard up to 2km away.
